22’ HERRESCHOFF EAGLE 1973. This classic traditional sailboat designed by one of America’s top classic boat designers, is for sale and located In Charleston SC. These boat hulls were built with many coats of thick fiberglass so they particularly strong and will outlast hulls built today.

The hull and deck of this boat although in excellent condition do need a paint job.

The rub rail on both sides of this hull had some dry rot so we replaced both sides with new teak rub rails, the cockpit seats also had some dry rot and were all replaced last year.

All Herreschoff Eagles have a very basic design flaw in that the main shroud chain plates are attached to the deck therefor the weight on the shroud’s eventually causes the deck to separate from the hull. We corrected this problem and this Eagle now has chain plates firmly bolted to the hull.

This Eagle has two unique features: We designed an extremely strong hinge for the base of the mast together with a stainless steel Tabernacle and winch, which makes the raising and lowering of the mast an easy one-person job. The other unique feature is that this boat has a flip up rudder (same idea as the Hobie Cat) which means that the boat only draws 18” with the center board up.

The motor is a 9.9hp Evinrude electric start, and completely serviced last year, two heavy duty batteries under the cockpit floor which are charged by two solar panels mounted on top of the sliding hatch. Two electric bilge pumps and one manual bilge pump operated from the cockpit.

The mainsail has a lazy jack system which drops the sail into a boom length sail cover with zipper. The jib is roller furling and the boat comes with a new (never used) roller furling jib.

Anchor; line, life jackets and running lights come with this boat.

This boat does need deck and hull paint and new cushions in the cabin.
