North Florida Fishing Report 5/3/16 Wide Open Charters And Guide Service

**Offshore the mahi bite continues to be good from well inside the ledge out to 300′. Blackfin tunas and and occasional wahoo are also melting ice for offshore trollers. Closer inshore the wrecks and reefs are now hosting summer residents including cobias amberjacks and barracudas. Kingfish could arrive anytime to round out the neighborhoods. Flying fish inside 6 miles in recent days have been common. Distant offshore interlopers in pursuit include blackfin tunas, mahi and sailfish. Reports of these fish were consistent this past weekend from anglers working local structure. The strong southeast swell of warmer water that has persuaded these pelagics inshore has also made conditions challenging.
Bottom fishing continues to produce Red Snappers, flounder and grunts on nearshore structure, with redeyes, porgies and triggers cooperating deep. The manta ray migration is in full swing and jig throwing cobia seekers sre in hot pursuit. Many rays with few fish is the word lately with most hookups coming inside 40′

Inshore the bite has been inconsistent and challenging. Redfish are holding in the creeks and a good number of flounder have been caught along shell bluffs in the ICW. Bonnethead sharks have made an appearance in large numbers throughout the area. Whiting are still being caught in the surf with pompanos, jacks and redfish. Early morning topwater is yeilding good action from trout for those who can endure the flying teeth gnats.
